Task 1 - Have a chat about...

Chat about what these different groups of customers would need when visiting a hospitality business, such as a hotel.

Young children
Teenagers
Older people

Once you’ve done this, read look at the BBC Bitesize page and add any you hadn’t thought about already.

Task 2 - Reading & writing

Use the TUI website to learn about holiday extras. These are things you can add to your holiday to make it better or easier. Compnies like them because they make them more money!

Create a Slides presentation about at least three of these holiday extras. You should say what they are and why they are good to add to a holiday.

Task 3 - Out of the classroom...

Visit the GALE centre and ask about their tourist information service. How do they promote places that people could stay, or visit? How do they do this in-person and online?

Task 4 - Getting ready to pass this outcome

First...

Watch this video which shows some of the good things about the holidays which are being advertised. Talk through why they are a good thing - for example, why is a seafront location a good thing?

Then...
Make an advert for a travel & tourism business (e.g. a hotel, a restaurant, an outdoor activities business). You will have to include what kind of people might want to use it and what features it has that people would be interested in.

Outcome - Promoting products & services

For this outcome, you will complete a question sheet which has three parts.

The first part asks you to identify good things that people would want on a holiday. For two of these, you then need to explain why they are good.

e.g. The hotel has a swimming pool with a lifeguard. This means that people can know that they will be safe if something goes wrong in the swimming pool.

The second part asks you to identify things which can be added to a holiday. For two of these, you should explain why they are good for the customer.

e.g. The cruise comes with a free drinks package. This will save the customer money and means they don’t have to worry about spending too much on drinks when they are there.

The third part asks you about how a holiday could be promoted and advertised to customers. You should say how it could be promoted and also explain why this would be a good way to do it.

You will need to collect the question sheet from your teacher.
