Find out what the rules are of the place you are working. You should find out:
What time you need to be there
What you need to wear and look like
Who you should ask if you need help
When and how they will give you advise to get better
Write up the list on a document or piece of paper.
At your work experience, keep a logbook of at least 6 visits.
It should say things like:
When you went to work
What you did
What you learned
Who you met
What you need to get better at
Working with an adult, look up what job adverts there are in the local area.
Chat about what the job is called, what it's responsibilities are and how much people are paid for doing the job. Chat about whether you would be able to do that job or, if you can't yet, what you might have to learn or study to get ready to do it.
You should look up at least 5 jobs - they don't have to all be in the travel & tourism sector.
For this outcome, you need to show you have these skills. You will need to record some evidence of these. You could do this by filming them, writing about them or keeping a logbook when you are working.
The skills you need to show are:
Good timekeeping and attendance -
You need to show you can be relied upon to turn up, on time. If you are going to be off or late, you need to tell the people you work with.
An awareness of the importance of appropriate personal appearance
You need to be dressed smartly - if there’s a uniform you need to wear it and keep it clean. If there’s not a uniform, you need to make sure you are clean and follow any safety rules like wearing an apron, having your hair tied back or not wearing jewellery.
A positive attitude to learning -
You need to show you want to learn from other people who work there. This could be learning new skills such as how to clean, how to interact with customers or how to use the till.
A willingness to seek help and advice when required
You need to be able to speak up and ask for help when you don’t know how to do things.
The ability to accept advice constructively
You need to be able to listen when people tell you how to get better. You need to do things in a different way if they tell you to. You need to do this politely and with an open mind to changing.
There might be a job in the travel & tourism industry that you think you would be good at. This should be different from the ones you looked at for Outcome 1.
To pass this outcome you need to complete three things:
First, you need to find a job that you would be interested in. Using the job advert, you need to describe what skills they are looking for.
Then you should do a pretend application to the job. It should include what skills and qualities you already have which would make you suitable for the job. You could think about your list of strengths and weaknesses - or what you have learned at your work experience - to help you with this.
For lots of jobs, there will be skills, qualifications, experience or training that you need to get before you can apply. Make an action plan which says how you could get these. You might need to think about other things you could do to learn the skills, or where you could study for any qualifications.
