This week's source of information is a scientific poster.
Scientific posters are a form of science communication which are used by people who work in industry, academia and communicating with public audiences. For example, Geographers often present work at conferences in a poster session, where interested colleagues can approach them to read the poster and discuss their work.
Poster session at the European Geosciences Union conference in Vienna.
A scientific poster presented at EGU. Note the maps, cross-sections, graphs and diagrams all included.
The British Geological Survey are an organisation which works to communicate geological data to wider audiences. They've used scientific posters to do this. One of these is a guide to SuDS for developers. Use this as a source and complete a Geographical Reading sheet.
An environmental quality survey is used to compare the quality of the experience that people have in different areas. It is regularly used to compare different parts of towns and cities, but it could equally show access to facilities and quiet spaces in more rural areas.
We will:
Complete an EQS, scoring areas against different qualitative statements
Use a decibel meter (app) to measure noise levels
Use a perception study to record levels of air quality
Use a camera to record levels of graffiti, litter and vandalism
