This week we're "plugging a gap" in your knowledge from Higher.
The Higher Geography course includes four global issues that you can study:
Climate Change
Development & Health
Energy
River Basin Management
The knowledge in all four of these units can be referenced during the Advanced Higher exam. Use the Chalk Talk revision video to learn about Energy - take some brief notes that you can refer back to during revision for your prelim & final exam.
The next part of descriptive statistics gets a little more complicated. First you look at two measures of dispersion, which include range & inter-quartile range. You should be familiar with these from maths, but there's a few reminders in there about how to treat data if it's not straightforward.
You then go on to look at standard deviation. Again, you might be familiar with this from maths but please follow the steps in the worked example. During your tutorial, we will talk about the meaning of standard deviation and why it's useful.
Pebble analysis is a common technique used in river, glacial and beach studies.
We will:
Use a random strategy to sediment
Use callipers to measure pebble axes
Use a roundness and angularity chart to learn about attrition of the sediment
Talk about imbrication of sediment
Use a systems diagram to describe the rock type
